We’ve all been there. You’re home, you’re hungry, but the fridge is empty and the cabinets are bare. Whether you’re having a lazy day at home or it’s a hectic day at the office, there’s a new business on island that will deliver take-out food to you from participating restaurants. STX Delivery will deliver to your home, office, marina and even some local beaches.

All you have to do is sign up on their web site – www.stxdelivery.com – place a pin on their map to show your location and verify your identity. Delivery rates range from $5 to $25, based on the distance between the restaurant and your delivery location.

Waterfront House Hunting on FYI Network

Chicago natives Mike and Elaine are looking for a home in Cotton Valley, St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. This marine couple have hung up their business attire and traded it in for sunscreen and board shorts. Mike has started his own fishing charter on the island and is practically a merman! Elaine loves the sweeping water views and can’t wait to spend every moment by the water. Elaine wants a modern home with a sprawling floor plan where she can entertain. Mike wants a cozy island home where he can kick back with a drink and enjoy the sea views. Will this couple end up living in a modern paradise or tiki palace?

Despite their differing opinions about the style of home they wanted, Mike and Elaine saw three beautiful properties with stunning ocean views. Which one did they choose? Watch Waterfront House Hunting to find out!

National Rum Day

cruzanrum Who knew?! Thanks to GoToStCroix.com, we learned that today, August 16, is National Rum Day. But isn’t every day Rum Day on St. Croix?

Captain Morgan Distillery and Cruzan Rum both call St. Croix home.

At the Cruzan Rum Distillery, you can tour the open-air warehouses and walk among the massive distilling vats and wooden aging barrels. In the Visitor’s Center, you’ll taste island-inspired rums and unique cocktails made with the Nelthropp family’s award-winning spirits.

You’ll learn all about the history of rum and how The Captain’s spiced rum is made at the Captain Morgan Distillery Visitor Center. The experience ends in the pirate-themed tasting bar with the huge variety of rums that Diageo has to offer.

HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Fleeing Chicago, Illinois for St. Croix

hgtv We’ve been waiting with bated breath for our episode of HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt – Fleeing Chicago, Illinois for St. Croix – and it’s finally here! Ania, Kyle, Maya and Niko’s hunt for their dream home in the U.S. Virgin Islands airs tonight at 8pm EST.

Ania and Kyle have been married for seven years and have two young children, Maya and Niko. Between raising the kids and operating a thriving mortgage company outside their hometown of Chicago, they’ve rarely been able to escape for a family vacation. But when the opportunity presented itself, they managed to visit the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Croix and quickly fell in love with its tranquil vibes and picturesque setting. After this life changing experience, Ania and Kyle decide to make this a regular occurrence and feel the purchase of their very own St. Croix beach house would be the perfect way to ensure future family getaways continue. With the help of local real estate agent, David Fedeles, they hope to find a pristine slice of sandy paradise for $375,000 or less.

teamISV The U.S. Virgin Islands has seven athletes competing in four sports in the Rio 2016 Olympics. Team ISV includes three athletes from St. Croix: Caylee Watson, swimming, women’s 100m backstroke; LaVerne Janet Jones-Ferrette, athletics, women’s 200m; and Muhammad Halim, athletics, men’s triple jump.

According to the Rio 2016 web site, “Peter Holmberg’s silver in sailing at Seoul 1988 is the only Olympic medal to date won by an athlete under the banner of the Virgin Islands, US.” The territory’s first Olympic appearance was in 1968 in Mexico City.

Summertime and the livin’ is breezy

As I write this, it’s a blue-skied, sunny day with a glorious ocean breeze.

House sales are up some 20% compared to last year (see the St. Croix Real Estate Market Watch chart below). We have a real need for salable residential inventory, particularly in the $400,000-$800,000 price range. If you have been considering selling, but were not quite ready to “pull the trigger,” the time is right to give us a call or an email so that we can provide a market analysis for you, and discuss the opportunity to sell your home now. We have many buyers in the marketplace looking to buy for their own “piece of paradise” so let us put it on the market for you!

St. Croix Real Estate Market Watch

Typically, we call this “slow” season on St. Croix; however, I’ve been thrilled to hear from many local businesses that they’re keeping busy. Old and new activities are aplenty – from paddle board lessons to paddle board yoga, guided nature hikes to snorkel clinics. GoToStCroix.com recently featured all of the great golf on island. Restaurants are staying busy, though it’s nice to catch up with local owners when reservations aren’t needed. As I mentioned above, the real estate market is up. It’s great to know that there are so many reasons that make our island a vacation destination or even home.

10_Pool Minneapolis natives, Doug and Linda, did both when they bought their Green Cay Oasis earlier this year. Choosing a vacation spot where it’s easy for their seven grandchildren to visit is just one of many reasons they now own their dream home on St. Croix.

We’ll be featured on HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt and FYI Network’s Waterfront House Hunting in the coming weeks. Watch as Kyle, Ania and their two kids find their beachfront dream home and Chris, Renee and their fur family look for the perfect waterfront house.

Sure, it may be warm wherever you are, but it’s always a good time to visit the Caribbean!
