Summertime and the livin’ is breezy

August 3, 2016 by Team Fedeles

As I write this, it’s a blue-skied, sunny day with a glorious ocean breeze.

House sales are up some 20% compared to last year (see the St. Croix Real Estate Market Watch chart below). We have a real need for salable residential inventory, particularly in the $400,000-$800,000 price range. If you have been considering selling, but were not quite ready to “pull the trigger,” the time is right to give us a call or an email so that we can provide a market analysis for you, and discuss the opportunity to sell your home now. We have many buyers in the marketplace looking to buy for their own “piece of paradise” so let us put it on the market for you!

St. Croix Real Estate Market Watch

Typically, we call this “slow” season on St. Croix; however, I’ve been thrilled to hear from many local businesses that they’re keeping busy. Old and new activities are aplenty – from paddle board lessons to paddle board yoga, guided nature hikes to snorkel clinics. GoToStCroix.com recently featured all of the great golf on island. Restaurants are staying busy, though it’s nice to catch up with local owners when reservations aren’t needed. As I mentioned above, the real estate market is up. It’s great to know that there are so many reasons that make our island a vacation destination or even home.

10_PoolMinneapolis natives, Doug and Linda, did both when they bought their Green Cay Oasis earlier this year. Choosing a vacation spot where it’s easy for their seven grandchildren to visit is just one of many reasons they now own their dream home on St. Croix.

We’ll be featured on HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt and FYI Network’s Waterfront House Hunting in the coming weeks. Watch as Kyle, Ania and their two kids find their beachfront dream home and Chris, Renee and their fur family look for the perfect waterfront house.

Sure, it may be warm wherever you are, but it’s always a good time to visit the Caribbean!

Warm regards,
The Fedeles Team

Choose Your Own U.S. Virgin Islands Adventure

June 10, 2016 by Team Fedeles

frederikstedcruiseshipForbes Travel Guide recently published an article encouraging you to Choose Your Own U.S. Virgin Islands Adventure, featuring St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John. Their write-up does a nice job at sharing the vast differences between each island.

All three of the places offer a world of engagement, though they do so in very different ways. One plants you squarely at the crossroads of tradition and tourism. Another takes you on a colorful history lesson. And the other simply asks you to walk side by side with Mother Nature.

Can you guess which one we call home? Forbes describes St. Croix as “a laid-back place that’s equal parts cultured and cool,” and we have to agree. We hope you’ll persuade a loved one to visit – we might just convince you to stay!

April showers brought May flowers

May 12, 2016 by Team Fedeles

We’ve certainly had our fair share of rain this spring. The day before the 28th running of the St. Croix Triathlon, we wondered if they would have to swim the entire race! Now our cisterns are full and the hillsides are green. The frangipani are in full bloom and mango trees are promising a fruitful harvest.

david at balterThe much-anticipated fine dining establishment, balter, has opened in Christiansted. In a centuries-old building, the restaurant features elegant open-air seating, a courtyard with bar, a small garden to supply the restaurant’s kitchen, and a stage. It was a pleasure to get a visit from Executive Chef and Owner, Digby Stridiron, during dinner last weekend!

lyricsailsThe Frederiksted Pier will have a short break from cruise ship traffic this summer (to resume in August). Meahwhile Lyric Sails has taken to the land and sea. Visit their storefront on King street or web site to book a Sunset Sails, Full Moon Sails, Stargazing Sails, Special Musical/Fine-Dining Events, or tranquil Yoga/Meditation cruise.

It’s no surprise that our beautiful island is featured on yet another list: Best No-Passport-Required Vacations for any Budget. Click around a little on that site and you’ll also see St. Croix listed as one of the top 10 best islands to live on.

Speaking of making the move, last week I had the joy of running into Emelyn and Jim Sayre at the Yacht Club. They bought their house on St. Croix in 2005 and, after renting it, they have finally settled here from Littleton, Colorado. Welcome Home, Em and Jim!

The real estate market has been active with home buyers on St. Croix. If you have been considering selling, now might be a good time to look more closely at your options. Give us a call to talk it through!

Whether for a visit or to call it home, it’s a great time to be on St. Croix. And remember, we’re here if you have any questions at all!

Warm regards,
The Fedeles Team

We’re so grateful for the support of the www.GoToStCroix.com team! They really are the best resource for planning a trip to St. Croix or for finding a new adventure if you already live here. Even after 25+ years, I still use their web site to plan outings and make recommendations to friends or clients!

If you haven’t yet made the move to the Caribbean (what are you waiting for?!?!), you can always daydream while watching the Christiansted Harbor Cam.

Be sure to follow them on Facebook and subscribe to the GoToStCroix.com email list for fun updates about our island happenings.

Iguanas!

October 16, 2015 by Team Fedeles

I love Greek food and I’m fascinated by iguanas. What do the two have in common? Apparently iguanas also love Greek food!

iguanasWhether you’ve lived on St. Croix your entire life, you’ve just made the move, or you’re planning a visit, feeding the iguanas at the Pickled Greek is one of the best kept secrets for fun on the island. At 10:30 every morning (except Sunday), join a staff member as they feed last night’s scraps to resident iguanas.

At the sound of the banging buckets, iguanas drop from trees and scurry up the hill for scraps of tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, and lots of other tasty morsels. Of course, then there’s Randy, the favorite iguana, who sometimes gets a fresh salad.

You can stick around after the feeding frenzy for lunch – the Pickled Greek opens at 11am Wednesday through Saturday. And Saturday is $5 Gyro Night.

I do wonder where this iguana food comes from. I never leave a scrap on my plate!
